About Us

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.

The National Federation of the Blind of Missouri was one of the original seven states that made up the National Federation of the Blind when it was founded in 1940 and has held fast to its legacy throughout the existence of the organization.

Along with our continuing legislative efforts to improve the life of blind individuals throughout the state of Missouri we support the following programs.

BELL Academy -  BELL (Braille Enrichment for Literacy and Learning) Academy is a 2 week program during the summer that provides blind and visually impaired children ages 4-12 with intense Braille instruction through fun, hands-on learning activities.

Mentoring and advocacy for blind youth, adults and families.

We partner with various social service agencies to provide guidance and support for dealing with individuals who are blind.
